|[AMRadio] .02 replacement cap|

IF I remember right, the outside foil bit was most useful when one side of the capacitor was grounded or attached to a much lower impedance node thus using the outside layer of foil for shielding to some extent. As far as reversing the orange drops, it should make no difference whatsoever since they are bipolar. Also, keep in mind that caps in series (with the circuit) roll off the lows and caps in parallel (to the circuit) roll off highs.

Great info guys.
I will just remove the cap and see what the audio responce is like first. There was a 'foil side' on the original paper cap so maybe reversing the orange drop leads will help if the audio highs are too much without the cap in line. Not sure why the hum appeared, may be unrelated.
And thanks for the justradios & hayseed supply sources - forgot all about them.

I've had very good luck with justradios.com on caps. I've ordered a lot from them over the past few years for my rx restorations. They do have a $20 minumum however. 73 Brian / w5ami ______________________________________________________________ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net/AMRadio mailing list Archives: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/amradio/List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.htmlList Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradioPost: AMRadio at mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-request at mailman.qth.net with the word unsubscribe in the message body.
