Did anyone think of going to your local airport maintenance facility to see
if someone there might have an old pair available.

I got a pair given to me for a few bucks.

Ronnie, try a local neon sign shop and ask for a feed-thru bushing w/nuts.
It is made from a HV proof plastic, is threaded on the outside and has a
3/8" hole in the middle. OD is 1/2"
Don, I use a piece of rag around the part I don't want to scratch and it
works pretty well.

Men I need a couple if 3/8" nylon shoulder washers. Must
pass a 3/8" bolt, or in this case the threaded shaft in a
variable capacitor that must remain above ground!
No local stores in my area carry them and I do t need a box
of 100 of them!
Anyone have a few of these I can purchase?

That safety wire thread reminded me. Does anyone know of a
source of plastic
jawed vice grips? Something you could use to grip something
without scarring
up or ruining the surface?

I notice that Sears has plastic jawed channel locks and
other varieties of
pliers, but I'm looking for something more specifically like
Vice Grips that
could be used to lock down on a metallic object and
hold it in place,
without gouging or destroying the plated surface.

I don't think I've seen plastic jaw Vice grips, but there
are plastic inserts for bench vices. Some have magnets built
in to help hold them in place.

Would it be possible to fabricate something that would work
from two
fingers of a set of rubber gloves?

Try using them first on a scrap of whatever in case that
doesn't work.
