I had no idea. My gosh that was so sudden. I was wondering why he wasn't on the air in the early morning as I would usually catch him on 3885Kc. Wow, that is a great blow to our AM Community, Jeff was what an AM Operator was all about. He wasn't shy about telling you if there was something wrong on your signal, but quick to tell you when you sounded great. No Candy Coating from Jeff! He was a great builder and has built some nice equipment like the 813 Amplifier that matches his Harvey Wells, the 4-1000A Amplifier he just finished, etc. I know he was really enjoying his Borgi built Transmitter and sounded terrific on it, He was proud of that. I feel privileged to have been a friend of Jeff, I will surely miss him. My deepest condolences go out to all family members and friends on this reflector. 73 Jeff Mike WZ5Q On 2/28/2017 9:15 PM, Mike Duke, K5XU wrote: > Many AM operators, especially in the southeast US, know or have often > spoken with Jeff May, W0XV, from Brookhaven, Mississippi. > > I learned this evening that Jeff has died of cancer. > > Apparently, the diagnosis was recent, and the end was quick. > > May he rest in peace. > From k4kyv at charter.net Wed Mar 1 23:14:54 2017 From: k4kyv at charter.net (Donald Chester) Date: Wed, 1 Mar 2017 22:14:54 -0600 Subject: [AMRadio] Jeff May, W0XV, SK In-Reply-To: References: <015501d2924d$26efc2f0$74cf48d0$@gmail.com> Message-ID: <001101d2930b$8c396260$a4ac2720$@charter.net> > This is terrible news. We split a hotel room and hosted a small get-together with some others the afternoon before the hamfest the following day. That's where I first met Steve, W2VMC and his XYL Angie, W5VMC. I have worked Jeff many times on 75. Now that I think about it, he may have suspected this was coming but just didn't talk about it. Several times he told me over the air after he acquired that rig that "this will probably be my last transmitter". Also, a couple of times in recent QSOs I remember the phrase "end of life" coming up in the conversation. He and I are almost exactly the same age, and I think he got his ham ticket in 1959, just a few months before I got mine. R.I.P. Jim W5JO -----Original Message----- There's a ten tec reflector where ten tec fanatics piss and moan about service etc. I think it is tentec at contesting.com But someone there can probably give you useful advice. I have found the best way to deal with service dept. is to buy tube gear and become my own service dept. 73 Rob K5UJ On 3/21/17, Mark Foltarz via AMRadio wrote: > Does anyone know how to reach Ten Tec's service dept ?The phone number > in their literature is no longer valid for the company or > service. They have not responded to the email I sent three days ago.I > know they got bought out by another company but this is getting > ridiculous de KA4JVY Mark ______________________________________________________________ Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net AMRadio mailing list Archives: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/amradio/ List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio Post: AMRadio at mailman.qth.net To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-request at mailman.qth.net with the word unsubscribe in the message body. These are amazing tubes for audio and RF use. Series up five and put across the AC line to light them up! Use one to drive 4 for RF, an easy 100 watts! Then look at the 7984, a VHF sweeptube in a compactron base. Can easily make 100w PEP out of a pair on HF. Message-ID: <201703302110.v2ULAxox049897@mx1.piesky.com> Just a note, the AM Rally actually begins at 8:00PM EDT on FRIDAY 3/31/17 which is 4/1/2017 0000z (the official starting time of the event). So, we can start operating the event on Friday night, which is great! Gives another big block of potentially good operating conditions to make contacts. Need info? Check http://www.amrally.com Logging software? http://www.amrally.com/amtrlog.htm The ARRL will be operating during the event as well (just spoke with someone there this afternoon). Should be a good time! Look forward to talking with many of the folks on this reflector during the event. It's great that the ARRL is behind this event, including an article about the event in QST and on their web site. The League is really coming around to the value of AM, and this event is certainly evidence of that fact. Let's make it a good one and get as many folks on the air this weekend (starting Friday night at 8:00PM EDT) as possible to make a good showing. Over those months, reported turnaround times for service have continued to drop. Apparently a previous owner tried to just "bleed the company white"--blowing out assets below cost, and (according to Rumor Control) various other monkey business, but the current owner has a much longer term view of things... and enough commercial and government orders to keep them very busy for a while... I have no connection with them other than that I own their products and I dislike seeing simple lack of information cause hard feelings anywhere. 73, Brian KA9EGW Sent from my iPhone, still learning to use it From johnmb at nc.rr.com Fri Mar 31 07:59:00 2017 From: johnmb at nc.rr.com (john) Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2017 07:59:00 -0400 Subject: [AMRadio] AWA meet Message-ID: <9349595c-381a-617c-f8c2-52320bfa72de@nc.rr.com> "Like hamfest tailgate areas, the big problem is the gear is older" Well, it IS the "ANTIQUE Wireless Association". :-) John K5MO -- III From ka1kaq at gmail.com Fri Mar 31 10:49:51 2017 From: ka1kaq at gmail.com (Todd, KA1KAQ) Date: Fri, 31 Mar 2017 10:49:51 -0400 Subject: [AMRadio] AWA meet In-Reply-To: <9349595c-381a-617c-f8c2-52320bfa72de@nc.rr.com> References: <9349595c-381a-617c-f8c2-52320bfa72de@nc.rr.com> Message-ID: On Fri, Mar 31, 2017 at 7:59 AM, john wrote: > "Like hamfest tailgate areas, the big problem is the gear is older" > > Well, it IS the "ANTIQUE Wireless Association". > :-) > > And not just the radio gear is older....
