The main thing I am wondering is that, internally, the PC91 has a 4.7 meg resistor feeding B+ to the screen of the pentode section of the 6U8A. I do no recall ever seeing a screen resistor that high in any audio amp circuit. In this PC91, that particular resistor is reading 8 Megs, the other two are high in value, but not that high, only about15% off. Are there any mods out there for changing the mic amp circuit in this TX? Does it really need a change or just pull the PC91 out and put the right discrete components in the amp circuit as shown in the schematic of the PC91, and leave that section stock? It, too, had a factory mistake in that the bypass capacitor in the second stage audio was in backwards, effectively reducing the audio. Previous owners did not find the problem rather they put 811A tubes in the Modulator rather than the stock 809s to increase the modulation percentage. After I changed the capacitor, along with all the others that needed changing, it worked as it should. Funny, after all these years finding a mistake like that, and congrats on getting the Scout going. Something that can complicate the WRL transmitters is that the schematic shipped with the radio does not always show the way it was wired. I have the original manual for my Globe King 500A and it shows the modulator tubes to be 5514 rather than the 811 in it. The 811 was stenciled on the chassis. Always worked for me at least. The one specific don't do is parking on a frequency running 2 KW and monopolizing a band segment for hours on end. 73 Rob K5UJ On Fri, Jan 5, 2018 at 6:37 PM, Paul Baldock wrote: > Could somebody post the full details of this years Heavy Metal Rally? > > - Paul KW7Y > > ______________________________________________________________ > Our Main Website: http://www.amfone.net > AMRadio mailing list > Archives: http://mailman.qth.net/pipermail/amradio/ > List Rules (must read!): http://w5ami.net/amradiofaq.html > List Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/amradio > Post: AMRadio at mailman.qth.net > To unsubscribe, send an email to amradio-request at mailman.qth.net with > the word unsubscribe in the message body. > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Message delivered to ranchorobbo at gmail.com From ron.k3pid at sbcglobal.net Sat Jan 6 13:46:10 2018 From: ron.k3pid at sbcglobal.net (Ron.K3PID) Date: Sat, 6 Jan 2018 12:46:10 -0600 Subject: [AMRadio] Heavy Metal Rally In-Reply-To: References: <0b0e6519-e773-70af-b637-7727265344ff@securespeed.us><5a501a45.8d12620a.18066.5d95@mx.google.com> Message-ID: <049E142963964CF3BC6543DC71E16BDD@Zeus> It's 5:30 Central Rob... see you then! Amazing what turns up when you just put 'vintage receiver' in their search box. When the ebay algorithm figures out what you are looking for, they put 'suggestions' on the bottom of the page, most of the time will be on your subject matter, other times, if it is radio related they put anything radio in there. Which is where this ad came up: Stryker SR94HPC Compact 45 Watt 10 Meter Radio. This is a 45 watt AM/FM radio for ten meters. I looked up info about it, and got a lot from 'not hams'. With a snip of the cryptically described 'white wire', you are transformed to the CB freqs. Apparently the white wire, is the one thing that keeps it US legal, but allows it to be 'opened up' for it's European market. If you remember in the days of the analog cell phones, the FCC made it illegal to make any scanner that would receive those frequencies, or even be modifiable to do so. Think that is still in place, but not sure how you decode the new modes to listen in even if you could make a scanner receive those freqs. So the FCC allows stuff like this to be sold here, tell you it is against the law to 'snip the white wire', and pretty much ignores it after that. I have a friend that sold, repaired and worked for Icom over in Africa for many years. The Icom rigs he sold came with preset freqs on all bands, usually the bottom of the band edge. There is so little FCC style enforcement, any and all Icom gear was sold to anybody that wanted a radio for whatever reason. He said the hambands over there were full of the rigs he sold, still on the ham bands because the customers never changed the presets. Miami FM radio has an estimated two dozen or so illegal stations.... some with sophisticated remote broadcast vans that do "remotes" at car dealerships and mall openings. The FCC tries, but when they close a frequency down, another pops up a few blocks away. The FCC cites lack of resources to enforce unless it involves aircraft, public safety, or emergency service interference. There is no law against possessing equipment that will operate on illegal frequencies. It's illegal to USE them on unlicensed frequencies. The FCC has no jurisdiction over what is sold or used in Africa. I'm more concerned about the FCC's failure to go after importers that bring RFI-spewing consumer junk into the country, stuff that operates in clear violation of Part 15 and Part 18 rules. I couldn't care less about what goes on with CB, as long as they stay out of the ham bands.
