Which manual Dale?
With a generic receiver with multiple LO frequencies the only time it would
make sense is if the run-out was consistent on all bands and there it is
quite easy. There are only 3-4 adjustable segments on those BC caps anyway
so forget about perfection and blame it on the person who designed the dial
scale!
Thats why they made crystal calibrators.
