[Hallicrafters] DD-1 Specifications

Hi All,

I stand self-corrected. Chuck Dachis does refer to the DD-1 as being Hi Fi 
audio, with the push/pull circuit.

Here is what Chuck says below -

PRECISION TUNING GEARS AND FLY-WHEELS FOR MAIN TUNING

WAS SOLD IN TWO CONFIGURATIONS,
THE TABLE TOP VERSION, AND THE CONSOLE VERSION. IN THE
CONSOLE THE AMPLIFIER AND POWER SUPPLY FIT INTO SHELVES IN
THE REAR OF THE SPEAKER CABINET. THE TABLE TOP UNIT SHOWN
HERE IS MISSING THE DIVERSITY METERS WHICH WOULD BE IN A
SMALL SLANT FRONT METAL CASE AND PLACED IN FRONT 16-10 & 16-
11, the new old stock cast           OF THE SPEAKER ON TOP OF
THE TUNER SECTION. THE CONSOLE UNIT HAS THE aluminum center
panels)                         DIVERSITY METERS IN THE WOOD
BONNET SITTING ON TOP OF THE TUNER. THERE
WERE BETWEEN 250 AND 500 OF THESE UNITS PRODUCED. ON THE
TECHNICAL SIDE:
THE TUNER CONSISTS OF TWO SEPERATE RECEIVERS EACH WITH ITS
OWN R.F., I.F., MIXER, DETECTOR, AND NOISE LIMMITER. THE
OSCILLATOR, B.F.O., POWER SUPPLY & AUDIO WERE COMMON TO BOTH
RECEIVERS. FRONT PANEL CONTROLS ENABLE COMPLETE CONTROL AND
CHOICE OF USING RECEIVER "A", OR RECEIVER "B", OR BOTH AT THE
SAME TIME FOR DIVERSITY RECEPTION. THE PRINCIPAL HERE WAS TO
CONNECT A SEPARATE ANTENNA TO EACH RECEIVER SEPARATED BY AS
MUCH DISTANCE AS POSSIBLE.
THE INCOMING SIGNAL FADES AT DIFFERENT TIMES IN DIFFERENT
LOCATIONS.  IF SET PROPERLY THE PROBLEM OF FADEING SIGNALS ON
SHORT WAVE CAN BE REDUCED.
THE AUDIO AMPLIFIER WAS DEFINITELY HIGH FIDELITY WITH ITS
PUSH-PULL 2A3s AND THE JENSEN 15 INCH SPEAKER BUT
BETWEEN THE FIRST AUDIO STAGE ON THE TUNER CHASSIS AND THE
POWER AMPLIFIER CHASSIS A COUPLING TRANSFORMER WITH A
LIMMITED FREQUENCY RESPONSE OF APROXIMATELY 200Hz TO 6000Hz
WAS USED. THE FREQUENCY COVERAGE IS .54MHz TO 46MHz IN SIX
BANDS WITH A 455KHz I.F.. THERE WERE TWO METHODS PROVIDED FOR
C.W. RECEPTION, THE STANDARD B.F.O., AND A "HETEROTONE"
OSCILLATOR. THIS WILL PRODUCE A USER SELECTABLE TONE OF 500Hz
OR 1000Hz TO MODULATE THE INCOMING C.W. SIGNAL AND WILL
REMAIN AT EITHER 500 OR 1000Hz REGARDLESS OF THE TUNING
ADJUSTMENTS. THE METERS USED WERE TWO "DIVERSITY" S-METERS
SHOWING THE RELATIVE SIGNAL FOR EACH RECEIVER, A COMPOSITE S-
METER SHOWING BOTH SIGNALS, AND THE "CIRCUIT BALANCE" METER
USED TO BALANCE THE R.F. GAIN OF BOTH RECEIVERS. TUBES USED:
EACH RECEIVER USES A 1851 FIRST R.F. AMPLIFIER, 1851 SECOND
R.F. AMPLIFIER, 6L7 MIXER, 6K7 FIRST I.F.  AMPLIFIER
6L7 SECOND I.F. AMPLIFIER, 6J5 S-METER AMPLIFIER, 6H6 SECOND
DETECTOR, AND 6H6 AUDIO NOISE LIMITER. THE COMMON OSCILLATOR
IS A 6K6, THE FIRST AUDIO IS A 6J5, A 6J5 B.F.O., 6J5
"HETROTONE" OSCILLATOR, AND A 6J7 COMPOSITE S-METER
AMPLIFIER. THE POWER SUPPLY FOR THE TUNER CHASSIS USES A 5Z3
RECTIFIER. THE AUDIO POWER AMPLIFIER USES A 5Z3 RECTIFIER,
6J5 DRIVER AND TW0 2A3 IN PUSH PULL POWER OUTPUT. TOTAL COST
WITH ALL OPTIONS $550.00


I had one of these many years ago and let it go. I am still kicking myself 
for that moment of stupidity!
