I had never tried this before although I've used QRZ for years. I looked up my postal zone number and wound up clicking on every ham listed there. Lots of technician class, one novice, only about four or five extras including me and only about three or four women. I suspect many of these folks are not active. I will look at the next over zone, up toward Los Feliz next but I am about saturated now. I love the University of Arkansas callbook lookup at: http://callsign.ualr.edu/callsign.shtml or from their main info page at: http://callsign.ualr.edu/index.shtml ? It allows searching by name, address, town, state, zip, etc.? A bit hard to get used to a few rules as it comes up last name then first and to search for say a first name of? "Jim" it would be ,Jim (as in comma Jim).? Searching Chicago, IL returned 2580 records with 1389 active. I have been told that QRZ.com also allows searching by more than just callsign. This was what UALR returned when searching zip code 60618: Result from callsign lookup Active: 59 Inactive: 52 Total: 111 Also when searching for a person you have to know how they are entered in the FCC database because a John Doe Jr might be Doe, John Jr (note Jr is part of first name) so searching Doe, John will not show you John Doe Jr (figure that one out). It is a great lookup utility though.? UALR does a great job and it is tied to the FCC database so it is current to within a couple days just like the FCC database. Hope that helps. Good luck. I sent the above message to the reflector too.? My original message contained the list of 111 results shown from the UALR output. I got a message back saying that my message exceeded the 40K message size limit by 8k so it has not been approved yet but the above will give you an idea of what to expect for the output.? I find the UALR callbook lookup to be a terrific site.? I have used it for years and often take the output and import the data output into an Excel spreadsheet to keep a list of local hams. I hope others find the site as useful as I do.
