Subject: [Hallicrafters] Saturday HCA 40 Meter Net Alert!
Message-Id: <200010070303.XAA13793@listserver.qth.net>

Yo brothers and sisters of things that go glow in the dark, turn up those
hearing aids. Huh? Be sure to join me on Saturday October 7th at 1:00 PM EDT,
(1700 UTC), for the HCA 40 meter net. It is on a frequency of 7.280 Mhz lsb. +/-
for mike dribble and RF sputter.

The topic will be: 2 and 6 meter AM. Hey, don't snort! They are making a
comeback like those bell bottom pants of the seventies! Did you save yours? The
only thing worse were those searsucker polyester sport coats! I sure got
arrested a lot during those years for wandering through local malls in my BVD
white boxer shorts with Big Daddy Ed Roth's Mr. Gasser figure air brushed on
them! Don't know if it was that Tom Jones shirt with the slit down to my belly
button or those shorts that seemed to excite thos security guards.

Anyhow, pack your Heathkit Lunchbox for tomorrow and lets talk about those
Twoer's and the Hallicrafters two and six meter rigs. There are quite a few Hams
out there using 6 meter AM today, is anybody doing a local Twoer 2 meter AM
roundtable? Has anybody got a Hallicrafters rig in working condition for six
meters?

I hope to hear you tomorrow.

If any of you happen to have a schematic or information on the ARC-5 and
BC-348q, please contact me direct. A Ham in Germany wrote to ask for assistance.
He is desperate for plans to build a power supply for these units.

Thanks.

Subject: [Hallicrafters] Re Volunteer Examineers
Message-Id: <200010070024.UAA05218@listserver.qth.net>

After my post on Wednesday October 5th, I received a very nice reply from Bart
Jahnke W9JJ manager of the ARRL VEC program. It was refreshing that the ARRL was
concerned about the administration of Amateur Radio examinations to those who
are physically handicapped, challenged, disabled or whatever we are supposed to
call it nowadays. He and I have had a most interesting running discussion on
different ways in which a blind person, (don't send me politically correctness
notes - I am speaking of me, and I can be blind if I want to be!), might take
the examinations.

The VE's do the best they can, but they are just as much at a disadvantage as
the person testing is. Bart and I both think that prevention might be worth a
pound of old resistors here. Maybe, more like probably, the administering VE's
should have a discussion with the person being tested several weeks prior to the
actual exam. Different methods work for different people. Learn which way the
handicapped person is most comfortable with and try to accomodate them. If
nothing else, this pre-test discussion might break enough ice to allow a rapport
that would otherwise be absent.

However, Bart did think I was being a little bit exploitive of the
"accommodating" concept when I ordered out for burgers and fries for all those
who tested and the VE's. Did I mention I gave the VEC's name to bill?
(Justkidding, of course.)

Thanks to Bart and the ARRL for expressing their interest.
