Yes there will be the regular Saturday January 5, 2002 HCI 40 meter Net. It will
begin at 1:00 PM EST, (1800 UTC) on a frequency of 7.280 Mhz lsb. If any kids
wish to check in, that is perfectly fine. In fact, my grandson Brandon will be
on hand to chat a little himself.

If Amateur Radio is to have a future, it will be the youngsters who carry the
boat anchor across the thresshold of tomorrow. So feed them good nutritious
diets, fill them full of vitamins and get them started on a regular exercise
program to develop strong minds, spirits and bodies. They will need them to heft
a healthy Hallicrafters!

Hear you tomorrow!

    Glen and Mark,
I absolutely agree, this is a very interesting point
that has been not so much developed on the reflectors discussions.

I have found a noticeable "better" audio quality in phasing
transmitters than the filter ones.

Moreover, the phasing generated audio signal has not the typical
phase delay problems of any filter, and fidelity is improved, no
doubt.

Hallicrafters has built several excellent or almost good phasing
transmitters, it's a pity to hear so few of them on air.

So, "tweak" and align those poor HT-44s and HT-37s and put them "on air" !!

      Best 73,
    Fabio, I0LBE

A question I've also wondered about, can any of the early Hallicrafters
transmitters without modification produce true double-sideband (both
sidebands with suppressed or no carrier) or is their DSB position
actually AM? (both sidebands with carrier)?

Tnx & 73

It has been my experience that the phasing type will
produce a little bit better sideband suppression and a
little bit "better" sounding signal. But, they
require constant attention ("tweaking" every little
while) so the slight advantage is overcome by the ease
in using the filter types. The ease in making filter
type of SSB generators has made them almost universal
in equipment today.
