The effect you observe is consistent with a discriminator whose secondary
tuned circuit is not aligned to the IF frequency. Tuning to the side
provides some slope detection of the FM signal. Any competent technician
with a schematic diagram and parts layout documentation should be able to
make the demodulator adjustment in a few seconds.

Subject: [SWL] Drake SW2 receiver
Message-ID: <a3d01fd7.36c2342a@aol.com>

Hello from South Wales, England,
                                                 Does anyone have any
experience with a Drake SW2 receiver, as I am thinking of buying one. The
thing that appeals to me most is the large bright display, but I do not want
to sacrifice too much performance to get this feature. I am not expecting it
to be in the same league as the far more expensive models, but I really only
want it for travelling. Any comments welcome,
  Many thanks, Dave Jones.

Hi
I just received a Sony SW77 and it seems to have a problem on FM. It
works great if it's tuned +/- 50kHz from center frequency, but sounds
bad on center. It works fine in all other modes. It's not a great
problem, but would like to know if anyone can let me know if this was
why some earlier ones were recalled. Any help or input will be
appreciated. Thanks
